Download updates.. for your Ford Mustang!

My car hasn’t really moved a whole lot recently and this locked-down world has made us all look into how we get around. If you’re looking for an all-electric car, the nice people at Ford PR have emailed about their Mustang Mach-E.

It’ll do an advertised 370 miles on one charge and can do 58 miles after just a 10 minute re-charge. Oh, and it’ll also hit 60 mph in less than 5 seconds. Not at all bad for a big SUV.

Available to pre-order right here I’ll admit that a one-speed electric-powered car is definitely pretty interesting. If you get one (for about £40K), it’ll get even better thanks to over-the-air updates which improve the car without you needing to do anything.

The Mustang will update itself in the background without you even having to be in the car, with performance enhancements getting added too. Updates can be downloaded in less than two minutes via a cloud-connected platform that keeps the current software running until a new version is ready to go – just like a smartphone.

John Vangelov, connected services manager at Ford, told us…

The beauty of the Mustang Mach-E is that what our customers experience on day one is just the beginning – it will evolve to add even more features and capabilities over time,” said “Our clever over-the-air updates also minimize downtime through incredibly fast activation and ensure your Mustang Mach-E is always getting better, even when you’re asleep.

Owners can select an “update window”, such as the middle of the night, for updates to happen, so there’s no need to even think about it.

Ford expects to deliver the first updates within six months of the initial Mustang Mach-E sales, with either WiFi or mobile data used to grab the updates.

So, if you’ve got one of these, don’t forget to check for updates 🙂
