Trump knocks Huawei off the table in China trade talks

Whilst being “fully engaged” monitoring Hurricane Dorian at his Golf course in Potomac Falls, President Trump has somehow also found time in his busy schedule to talk about the continual teasing of Huawei.

The President, who called a previous hurricane “one of the wettest we’ve ever seen from the standpoint of water”, has now suddenly decided that Huawei won’t be part of any future trade discussions with China.

Mr Trump managed to say some words about the decision to reporters yesterday..

It’s a national security concern. Huawei is a big concern of our military, of our intelligence agencies, and we are not doing business with Huawei … We’ll see what happens with respect to China, but Huawei has been not a player that we want to discuss, (that) we want to talk about right now.

This move only solidifies the position of Huawei on the US “Entity List” and stops the smartphone maker from working with any American companies. That’s Google, Arm and Qualcomm plus many more besides. It’s going to make the upcoming Huawei Mate 30 Series launch very awkward indeed. No Google Play. No YouTube. No GMail. What next for the company?
