MWC – Xiaomi Mi 9 global launch countdown ..

Yes, it’s that time of year again. The whole Mobile World Congress madness is about to kick into high gear. We’ve got our suitcases brimming, the flights are booked and the hotels are ready. It’s time to pack our running shoes and prepare to run all around Barcelona as w deliver the latest news from the various mobile announcements across the city.

On Sunday morning, before we’ve probably even had our breakfast, Xiaomi will be announcing the Mi 9. We’ve already been mightily impressed with the Mi 8 Pro and the Mi 8, so we expect more goodness from the Mi 9. The company have been teasing us with sample shots from the camera and this little intro video for the phone…

However, what’s ever-so-slightly-puzzling is the fact that the phone already got announced locally in Beijing so the specs, price and pictures are already on the web. A waterdrop notch, an in-display fingerprint sensor (like the Mi 8 Pro) and a clever AI system that allocates tasks to each CPU core for less power drain.

It’s powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 CPU, which is an 8 core processor running at up to 2.8GHz. There’s one “super-large” 2.84GHz core, three 2.42GHz cores and four 1.80GHz cores. It also has an Adreno 640 graphics processor 6GB or 8GB RAM (depending on the model) and 128GB of storage.

The screen is a 6.39″ Samsung Full HD AMOLED at 2340 x 1080 with 403 PPI and a 600nit screen brightness. There’s Gorilla Glass 3, anti-staining, anti-fingerprint coating and a 48 megapixel rear Sony camera alongside a 12 megapixel portrait and 16 megapixel ultra wide-angle lens. Up front, a Sony 20 megapixel beauty camera.

It has a 3300 mAh battery, fast charging, wireless charging, dual-frequency GPS, NFC, dual-band WiFi and ultrasonic fingerprint.

Yes, ultrasonic fingerprint.

Hang on a minute… a triple rear lens arrangement and an in-screen ultrasonic fingerprint sensor, just like the Samsung Galaxy S10? A 48 megapixel camera like the Honor View20?

Interesting!
