Google to receive massive £3.8 billion Android fine

The BBC is today reporting that the Android OS is to be the subject of yet more fines from the European Commission. It’s another massive fine for the company after Google was hit with a £2.1 billion fine for their shopping comparison process.

Today the EU have found Google using Android as a way to illegally “cement its dominant position in general internet search”. They now have 90 days to alter their ways or they will be hit by even more penalties.

Although Google have received fines in the past, this one is the single largest fine by the regulator against one firm. Competition Commissioner Margrethe Vestager has stated that Google have..

Denied European consumers the benefits of effective competition in the important mobile sphere.

It’s expected that the company will appeal, just as it has previously.
