Oreo being delivered to the Sony XZ Premium

I’ve been pretty impressed with the XZ Premium ever since I first saw the thing back in March. The build quality is the usual Sony finery and that 5.5″ screen resolution (2160×3840 pixels) is stunning.

It also comes with the ultra-fast Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 CPU, 4GB RAM, 64GB storage, Quick Charge 3.0, a 19 megapixel rear camera, 13 megapixel front, WiFi, Bluetooth 5.0, NFC, WiFi and … wait a minute… Google Android 7.1 Nougat…

Yes, the “older” OS has now been superseded by Android 8.0 Oreo, and Sony have today told us that the Xperia XZ Premium will be shipping with this new and improved OS here in the UK. The update also brings new features, including..

3D Creator: first seen on the XZ1 and XZ1 Compact, the all new app allows you to scan your face, head, food or a range of objects on the XZ Premium. Render scans in full 3D on your device, add to an avatar, or share on social media.

Predictive Capture: never miss a smile again, the XZ Premium’s camera now detects your smile before you even hit the shutter button

Autofocus burst: capture moving objects in sharp focus for blur free shots

You can get further information on the Sony blog. This is a phased rollout, so it may take a little longer to get to your phone.
