Remember these adverts? They appeared a few months ago to promote the Nokia Lumia 800 and used “break flashes”. This was picked up in our earlier article and consists of advertisers showing a very brief (half a second) message between the other commercials.
Ofcom found Channel Five to be in breach if their code because the sponsorship and association between Nokia and Channel Five was not made clear enough. The Channel argued that longer ads were interspersed within the programming to explain the fact that Nokia were a sponsor, but Ofcom have still stated that the channel was in breach of the broadcasting code.
The actual report is available to download on their site, but do be aware of some quite graphic terminology surrounding the Sport XXX Girls and Northern Birds channels within the document. 🙂
