Android Market hits 400K applications

The Android Market has hit a new milestone of achieving 400,000 active applications, reports Distimo. It is still playing catchup to the Apple App Store but it is certainly gaining pace and I imagine will continue to do so – there’s only so many apps that can be written surely, so critical mass must get to a point where both stores have a very close number of apps available…? It seems clear to me though that apps are largely released for iOS first, I wonder how long it will be (if ever?) that apps are developed and released simultaneously for both platforms. Worth mentioning that the Windows Marketplace has just over 50,000 apps¬†although Microsoft consistently state that it’s about “quality over quantity”.
