Hey, remember beebPlayer? It was a fantastic Android app for watching BBC iPlayer programmes on your mobile, but a few months ago it got removed from the Android Market. Dave Johnson has revealed a little more about the reasons behind the decision. Put simply, it was the BBC who put the brakes on and this seems to indicate that alternatives like myPlayer may be next in the firing line..
“beebPlayer was not a licensed distributor of BBC content online or on mobile.”
..say the BBC, although they’ve now decided to use the new 10.1 Flash player in Android 2.2. Most Android handsets in the UK use Android 2.1 or lower currently, so it looks like we’ll have to wait for the “official” BBC solution to this.
