The Honor 6X was announced and has been available in China since October 2016. Honor have ramped things up and the device will be available to pre-order in Europe and the USA as of later today.
The Honor 6X is a mid-range 5.5″ device which will replace the Honor 5X in their portfolio, but the spec sheet gets a significant bump compared to last year’s model.
Honor 6X Specifications

- 32GB storage + 3GB RAM
- MicroSD expansion slot up to 256GB
- 12MP + 2MP rear dual camera setup with phase detection autofocus
- 8MP selfie camera
- 3340 mAh battery with fast charging capability

If you compare the Honor 6X’s spec sheet with the 5X, there is a significant bump in all fields. Honor have moved away from the Qualcomm chipset in favour of their own Hisilicon solution. The Kirin 655 chipset is an improved iteration of the chip in the Honor 5C which is built on a 16nm architecture. This means the Honor 6X will last longer with less battery, but the battery has been bumped up from 3000 mAh to 3340 mAh. Honor say the 6X can last over two days in normal usage or over one day in heavy usage. We look forward to testing this and seeing how it performs.
In the software department the Honor 6X is running EMUI 4.1 on Android 6. No big surprises here, but seeing the trends with Huawei/Honor devices there shouyld be an upgrade to EMUI 5 and Android 7 at some point in the future.
The dual camera setup on the back is interesting: the two sensors and lenses are similar to what we have seen on the Oukitel U20 Plus. The main sensor is a 12MP one with phase detection autofocus and relatively large 1.25um pixels. The secondary sensor is there for depth perception and to facilitate the bokeh effect and is “just” a 2MP one. I’m getting all teary eyed remembering the Sony Ericsson K750 which at the time had an amazing 2MP camera… Selfies will be taken care of by a 8MP setup.
Pre-orders for the Honor 6X start later today on vmall.eu and will be released on January 10th. You will also be able to purchase the Honor 6X from Amazon. Indicated pricing for the UK is £224.99.
