Youre only getting 4G 53% of the time.
According to a report published by OpenSignal and consumer watchdog Which?, smartphone users here in the UK only appear to get access to 4G data speeds for about half of the time on average.

From the four UK networks tested, EE was found to have the best 4G connectivity. This is not surprising considering the company’s £1.5bn three-year network investment plan which includes the expansion of 4G and the commitment to reach 99% of the population with superfast 4G.

Sadly Three had the worst connectivity, however they did give fastest download speeds when 4G was connected (although I find that hard to believe some days). To be fair Three was the last operator to the 4G party, beginning in December 2013. They state that they are continuing to extend their 4G network every day.

Richard Lloyd, the executive director of Which? states ..

Almost everyone now uses a mobile phone service and it’s not good enough that the UK is lagging behind so many countries with our 4G network coverage

The report also noted that O2 had the highest 3G and 4G latency. It also shows that although the UK is a leading market in the uptake of 4G services, there is still plenty of work to be done in network roll-out.”
