Syllable D700 Bluetooth Sports Headphones – Review

Syllable D700 Bluetooth Sports Headphones Review
We recently took a look at the Syllable A6 Bluetooth headphones and now we’ve got the sportier D700 ones. They’re available on Amazon USA for $19.99 and here in the UK for £13.99.

Initial impressions are very good. I tried these on at the gym and they hooked onto my ears perfectly and they connected easily with my phone – no cables to worry about. The hooks and rotatable earbuds means that they fit snugly into your ear – no matter what shape your ears might be. They’re light and, when you’re running and sweating, stay firmly in place. The company who make these (Syllable) tell me that they’re “sweat proof” and they indeed survived quite a few rounds at the gym. You can’t go swimming in them, but they’ll survive a bit of splashing and sweating.

On the connecting cable is a light-weight a rubberised control module which lets you skip tracks, adjust volume, answer and make calls plus you can power the device on here or start pairing.

The audio is slightly better than on the A6 with a tiny bit more bass, but it still wasn’t quite enough for me. Also, to make things worse, when I cranked the volume up to full I found that the battery lasted for just one hour. This is despite a full charge. I was expecting a bit much, but it didn’t even last long enough for me to finish my gym session, which was a bit disappointing. After a bit of testing I found that it did last slightly longer if you dipped the volume a bit. If you do that they you’ll get around 2 hours which is a bit more respectable.

On the side of that control pod is the charging point. This is tucked behind a rubber flap to match the rest of the controls and it’s a standard microUSB port. A little red LED will illuminate whilst charging.

Overall the headphones are well built and definitely look the part. The sound quality is OK but the bass still isn’t deep enough and, with speakers in my local gym already pumping out music, I had to turn up the volume on the Syllable D700 headphones to drown that out, and that killed the battery in just one hour.
