Swype 3.0 Beta out now.

Swype, the keyboard where you swipe your fingers across the keys rather than type, it’s a bit like marmite, you either love or hate it!

Personally I love it, I’ve been using it for nearly as long as I’ve had a smartphone…. so I’m quite looking forward to the update that is apparently due out just about now.

Swype have replied to my question about if we will be notified via email, their reply is pasted below.

Swype 3.0 Beta out now.

What’s new in Swype 3.0:

  • Tap Correction:You’ve always been able to jump back and forth between swiping through letters and tapping letters one-by-one; now you can do the latter without losing the autocorrect/predictive functionality that comes with swiping.
  • Horizontal Word Choice: When there are multiple possible words for the letters you just swiped through, the options will be shown in a sliding horizontal bar above the keyboard as opposed to the strange popup selection window that Swype has had for a while.
  • Available for devices with HVGA, WVGA, FWVGA, QVGA, WQVGA, WSVGA, qHD screen sizes
  • A special Honeycomb-only WXGA version for Android tablets, which features a resizable and moveable keyboard

Yep, downloaded newest version on my HD2 (using a Nexus One SD variant of Android 2.2) and haven’t really noticed any difference yet. Time will tell I suppose…

Hmmm, looks like I was totally lying (ducks and blames early morning). Seems all I did was download a more recent version of the swype beta 2 rather than swype 3. Oh well, I await with joyful anticipation…

It went live about 4 hours after I posted this last night, if you go to Swypes website you can download it there. The Beta is also open again I believe.

All good now! You have to uninstall your previous version of ths swype beta and then it lets you download the newest one. Will take a little bit of getting used to but from this (my first typing with it!)little bit of type it’s all good… ;-)
