Locked bootloaders are history – HTC

Locked bootloaders are history HTC
HTC have officially given the green light to unlocked bootloaders following a number of campaigns and petitions around the web. The news, which was posted on the HTC Facebook page, comes from Peter Chou himself…

There has been overwhelmingly customer feedback that people want access to open bootloaders on HTC phones. I want you to know that we’ve listened. Today, I’m confirming we will no longer be locking the bootloaders on our devices. Thanks for your passion, support and patience.

Good news all round. The developer and modding community have long favoured HTC kit, and this news will be welcomed.

    Nice, well done HTC!

  • This is why I like HTC products.  Although I’m not brainy enough to MOD myself, I’m happy that they have listened to their customers and that amazingly talented people can help improve the HTC experience for other owners.

Thank you HTC and thank you all your hard working developers and modders out there!

    What about existing devices?

Now there’s someone who takes their customers seriously – and in turn is safeguarding the long-term success and prosperity of their own business.

Unlike a certain other person who’s on everybody’s mind when pondering on the courageous U-turn of Peter Chou. You can’t forever prescribe to your customers what YOU think they should want and in the process treating them like little children, one day they will wake up and realise! In the end it ALWAYS ends up in a ‘humble pie’ scenario. I guess the difference in the mentality of business leaders between the West and the Far East is beautifully demonstrated here.

Owning a business myself I know how hard it can be when you think that you yourself have all the answers and ‘obviously know’ what your customers ‘ought’ to want – only to have to recognise that this attitude is usually the wrong way around.

  • Phew! Was scared for a while that I’d have to buy a non HTC phone for the first time in 8 years so glad this is sorted now.

  • I’ll believe it when I see it :)

In the meantime I’m enjoying the awesomeness of my o2x
