Nokia 5.4 available on Friday

Packing a Qualcomm Snapdragon 662 and a 6.39″ HD+ (720 x 1560, 19.5:9) screen, this is the new Nokia 5.4 from HMD Global.

It comes with a rather cool rear camera arrangement (48 megapixel main, 2 megapixel depth, 5 megapixel ultrawide and 2 megapixel macro) plus a 16 megapixel selfie shooter via the punch-hole in the screen. There’s going to be a few variants floating around – a 4GB/64GB model, a 4GB/128GB model and a 6GB/64GB one. Either way, you get a microSD card slot for more storage.

Powered by a 4000 mAh battery, it’ll do 10W fast charging via the USB-C port, plus there’s NFC, Bluetooth 4.2, aptX Adaptive audio and a 3.5mm audio port.

Available in Polar Night or Dusk, you can sign up to get the phone, which boast a 2-day battery life, Android 11 and an AI camera with enhanced editing facilities. It’ll be available on December 18th from in Polar Night, with the Dusk shade appearing in January. The base 4/64 GB configuration will be £159.99 and you’ll see it popping up on Amazon and Argos soon enough too.

We’re told that the handset “champions speed and performance at amazing value”, plus it’ll get three years of security updates at least. Key features here at that 4000mAh battery, the tough polycarbonate body, the 48 megapixel main camera and 60FPS video recording.

Juho Sarvikas, Chief Product Officer and the VP of North America at HMD Global, tells us..

With the Nokia 5.4 we wanted to combine high performance with great value and offer more with this phone. I like to think we set the bar for what mid-range phones should offer, so it’s hugely important to me to design phones that not only perform but are also secure and built to last. Being built to last is about much more than craftsmanship, it’s the ongoing maintenance and updates. Whether you’re powering an electric car or a Nokia handset, understanding that software updates are vital to ensuring your tech’s performance is crucial. I’m proud to say that we are one of the firms who do this best.

I must admit, Nokia / HMD Global are proving to be a very appealing choice in the mid-range.
