Cat Phones Announce the S42 Rugged smartphone


So, you want a hard-core phone that’ll easily cope with the rigours of daily life? You want the new “unbreakable” and rugged Cat S42. It’s just £229 and will be available to buy on July 20th.

The S42 adds a long battery life, plus it’s drop proof and waterproof – meaning you can thoroughly submerge it, keeping it hygienically clean with hot soapy water or disinfectant. That’s up to 1.5m in water for 35 minutes.

This phone hits the MIL SPEC 810H and IP68 ratings, plus it surpasses repeated drop testing from 1.8m onto steel, including multiple drops onto every side and corner. It also goes through vibration and tumble tests, salt mist conditions and temperature extremes. This is one tough cookie.

Spec-wise, you get a 5.5″ 1440×720 18:9 screen with gloves and wet-finger tracking behind the Corning Gorilla Glass 5. In addition there’s a 4200mAh capacity batter, 13 megapixel rear camera, 5 megapixel selfie shooter, Bluetooth 5, NFC, dual-band WiFi, GPS, 3.5mm audio port, Android 10 and 32GB of storage (which can be boosted with a microSD card. The 3GB RAM sits alongside a Mediatek quad-core 1.8GHz CPU.

So basically, a long battery life, workhorse quality and a thoroughly tested rugged smartphone.
