Just now Xiaomi have launched their latest iteration of MIUI 12 – their Android-based OS. The rollout will begin in the next few weeks and you’ll see the Redmi Note 9, Mi 10, Mi Note 10 and POCO F2 Pro getting the update… but not, it seems, the Mix 3 5G model. Bit weird that, but the Mix 3 is getting it so hopefully the 5G model will be done too.
Optimizations, additional privacy protection and a greater control over permissions are all part of this update, with the camera, microphone, contacts, call history, calendar and storage permissions only allowed in the “While using the app” mode. In addition, location information and metadata can be stripped from photos before being shared on social media and through other apps.
There’s an all-new UI and slick system animations to create a more “lifelike OS experience”. In addition, there’s something called “Super Wallpaper” which adds some gorgeous space-themed imagery based on NASA photos. This is all combined with the Always-on display, Home screen, and Lock screen to create a “space mission”.
Other improvements include multitasking (via global floating windows which can be moved, closed and resized merely by gesture), Casting (sending documents, apps, videos and games to the big screen with Multitasking windows supported hee too), Ultra Battery Saver, Dark Mode and an App Drawer to make your Home screen cleaner and neater.
