Got yourself £539 and want to buy yourself a true gaming phone without breaking the bank? This is the RedMagic 5G, available right now from the RedMagic online store.
There’s a couple of versions and so prices are as follows..
8GB+128GB for $579 / €579 / £539
12GB+256GB for $649 / €649 / £599
For your money you get a slippery-smooth 144Hz “ESports” 6.65″ AMOLED Full HD (1080×2340 19.5:9 screen at 387ppi). Inside there’s a “Turbo Fan” spinning at up to 15,000 RPM to give up to 18°c of cooling. There’s also a Liquid Cooling Pipe, Thermal gel, copper foil, and graphite thermal pads. Add all this together and the ultra-quick Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 5G CPU (up to 2.84GHz) should fly along without getting hot. They tell me that this will make the phone 200% cooler than previous RedMagic phones.
Games like Real Racing 3 will get a “super smooth gaming experience” with 240Hz touch sampling.
Other specs include an in-screen fingerprint scanner, an Adreno 650 GPU, Bluetooth 5.1, NFC, WiFi 6 and GPS.
There’s a couple of models available – an 8GB / 128GB storage version and a 12GB / 256GB storage model. Both use UFS 3.0 and LPDDR5 for incredible transfer speeds.
The RedMagic 5G boasts a 4,500mAh large capacity battery and a 18W charger. They’ve also made the charge cable less obtrusive when you hold the phone horizontally.
Other features include built-in shoulder trigger buttons with a 300Hz touch refresh rate and a 2ms touch delay.
The camera setup is properly good – a triple lens camera setup with a 64 megapixel Sony IMX686 lens, an 8 megapixel wide-angle lens and a 2 megapixel Bokeh lens. At the front, for your selfies, there’s an 8 megapixel front camera.
Other details include a 3.5mm audio jack, Type-C charge point and RedMagic OS 3.0 powering the show – that’s based on Android 10.
