We’re here live in Paris and, just now, the Honor View20 has been announced. Known also as the V20 (you’ll see the letter “V” on the back too, it’s got a few things going for it. For a start, there’s a selfie camera, but it’s actually in the screen. It sits in a tiny 4.5mm hole and is a 25 megapixel unit which also has some clever AR Emoji smarts. Around back, the news gets even better as a 48 megapixel Sony shooter ramps up the megapixel count to new heights.
The phone itself has a 6.4″ 1080 x 2310 pixel screen which is 398 ppi density and it clocks up a near 92% screen to body ratio.
It’s powered by Android 9.0 (Pie) and has the Huawei EMUI but is called “Magic UI 2” here. Storage-wise there’s no microSD slot, but you do get 128GB of storage and 6GB of RAM. Yes, 6GB. Add to that the HiSilicon Kirin 980 octa-core chip. That’s the very same one that you’ll find in the Mate 20 Pro. It’s got two 2.6 GHz Cortex cores, two 1.92 GHz cores and four 1.8 GHz Cortex-A55 cores. Mix in some liquid-cooled magic, slot in the Mali-G76 MP10 GPU and then add a 4000mAh battery that lasts for ages and, well, you’ve got one very, very decent smartphone.
The camera at the back is a dual 48 megapixel unit with a depth sensor – you can do AI-powered 48 megapixel shots which are woven together to produce an ultra-clear photo. The AI will also detect scenes and objects, plus you can compare prices on goods by just taking a photo of them.
In addition there’s a 3.5mm audio port (officially known as the “courage port” here at Coolsmartphone), Bluetooth 5.0 with aptX, dual-band WiFi, dual-band A-GPS, NFC, a USB-C charger and a fingerprint sensor at the back. It’ll also do speedy charging.
The price? For this flagship? Just £499 / €569. That’s for 6GB RAM and 128GB storage. Images from the event below..

HONOR VIEW20 SETS NEW SMARTPHONE STANDARDS WITH WORLD-FIRST TECHNOLOGY
The HONOR View20 smartphone has been launched in the UK priced from £499.99 GBP
January 22, 2019 (Paris, France) – HONOR, a leading smartphone e-brand, launched its latest flagship smartphone, the HONOR View20, in Paris today for consumers in the UK. The brand unveiled a host of world-first features, including the first ever 48MP smartphone rear camera, a 25MP in-screen front camera and a stunning aurora nanotexture design, all of which helped it win numerous awards at CES 2019 in Las Vegas earlier this month.
Priced from £499.99 GBP, the HONOR View20 also offers strong performance thanks to a 7nm Kirin 980 AI chipset, as well as Triple-Antenna Wi-Fi technology, which prevents the signal from weakening when a user’s hands cover the receiver.
Michael Pan, President of HONOR, said: “We’re absolutely thrilled to launch the HONOR View20, our latest flagship device. The HONOR View20’s impressive AI photography features, strong performance and world-first design are ideal for users looking for dynamic smartphones to match their fast-paced lifestyles. Delivering groundbreaking technology and industry-leading performance, the HONOR View20 is the next stage in smartphone evolution.”
Unrivalled smartphone photography and 3D camera capabilities
The HONOR View20’srear camera is the first to be powered by the SONY IMX586 48MP sensor, with a 1/2-inch large CMOS, and equivalent 1.6μm pixels in Quad Bayer array. The sensor, boosted by the Kirin 980 chipset, helps the new 48MP AI Ultra Clarity mode produce photos with unmatched detail and clarity.
The camera takes several 48MP pictures at once and collates the best details from each photo to create one 48MP image. The Kirin 980’s dual NPU processes the photo using an advanced AI algorithm, which assesses the photo quality, optimises details in the darks and adjusts colours to appear more vivid.
The advanced rear 3D camera collects information on the shapes of objects based on the time-of-flight of light signals to enable depth sensing, skeletal tracking and real-time motion capture. This camera can turn the HONOR View20 into a motion-controlled gaming console, allowing you to play 3D motion games like never before. For the best experience, users can purchase an official dock or use a USB Type-C to HDMI convertor and cables to connect the smartphone to a TV for motion-controlled gaming. They can also use wireless connection to connect the phone to a TV.
New dimension in design
The HONOR View20’s advanced in-screen front-facing 25MP camera design and innovative All-View Display provides a notch-less viewing experience accompanied by an outstanding 91.8% screen-to-body ratio.
The HONOR View20 is also the first smartphone to use nanolithography to create a nanotexture – a vivid and dynamic V-shape colour gradient effect featured on the rear of the phone. The smartphone’s integrated 3D curved body with an elegant arc design is only 8.1mm thick and consists of a perfect blend of metal and glass texture.
Cutting-edge 60fps gaming performance
To celebrate the HONOR View20 launch, HONOR is collaborating with Epic Games to push the mobile gaming experience of Fortnite to the next level. The HONOR View20 provides the highest average frame rate (60fps) and the lowest jitter rate when playing the action-packed game, in comparison to key competitors, delivering an excellent experience to gamers.
As part of this collaboration, HONOR View20 owners will have exclusive access to an HONOR GUARD outfit in Fortnite.
In addition, as part of HONOR and Epic Games’ commitment to push the limits of mobile gaming and bring a console-like experience to gamers everywhere, the brands have begun working together to optimise select HONOR devices for the Unreal 4 Engine.
A leap into intelligent living
The HONOR View20 is equipped with innovative AI capabilities which deliver a customised, easy-to-use experience. Its 3D camera can identify over 100 kinds of food and the AI object identification feature can even identify over 300 famous landmarks and 100,000 paintings from around the world.
From January 22, 2019 onwards, The HONOR View20 will be available for purchase in the United Kingdom at £499.99 GBP (6GB RAM/128GB ROM) and £579.99 GBP (8GB RAM/256GB ROM). The smartphone is available in three colours: Midnight Black, Sapphire Blue and the Moschino co-designed Phantom Blue.
The device will be available to purchase from Carphone Warehouse, JLP, AO, Argos, Amazon, Buy Mobiles, Go Mobile, Mobile Phones Direct, Tesco Mobile, Very and hihonor.com.
The HONOR View20 will also be available on O2, allowing users to tailor their own individual O2 custom plan to suit their needs and lifestyle. Including airtime plus device tariffs and unlimited minutes and texts, plans start from £33.03 per month for 1GB data up to £48.03 per month for 50GB data.
