Argos to sell the Microsoft Band 2 and a reduced Band 1

The original Microsoft Band was released a year ago in a relatively muted fashion but was greeted enthusiastically by the tech press.  The problem was that Microsoft initially only sold it in the United States and could not keep up with the demand it generated.  This lesson seems to have been learned and the soon-to-be-released Band 2 is coming here as well as the US.  In addition, it has now been announced that Argos will sell it.  Available from 19 November the 2nd generation Band costs £199, the same price as on the Microsoft website.  As a reminder, the Microsoft Band 2 is more than just a fitness device as it delivers smart notifications too.  It comes with a vast array of sensors built in:

  • Optical heart rate sensor
  • 3-axis accelerometer/gyro
  • Gyrometer
  • GPS
  • Ambient light sensor
  • Skin temperature sensor
  • UV sensor
  • Capacitive sensor
  • Galvanic skin response
  • Microphone
  • Barometer

Perhaps most importantly, it is one of the very few devices that works with Windows Phone, Android and iOS.

At the same time Argos have reduced the price of the original Band down to £99.99, a reduction of £70.  At the moment they are also running a promotion where a spend of over £100 will result in a £10 gift card.  Thanks to new legislation all that’s required is a £99.99 Microsoft Band and 5p carrier bag and you can effectively take another £10 off the purchase price.

Both generations of Band are available in three size, with more details here.
