OVEVO Fantasy Pro Z1 Bluetooth speaker – Review

I always tend to start these articles by saying, “we get a lot of Bluetooth speakers”. We do. We really do. This one is a bit different, because it’s got some additional talents. It’s also a rather nice LED light.

The people behind this tell me that – despite the company tagline being “OVEVO – Sport and Music” – it’s actually an ideal bedside light. You can perhaps play some pleasant background music while the LED light softly shines.

Starting to use this is relatively easy. Press and hold the central button on the rear to fire it up and then get the device paired with your handset. If you don’t have Bluetooth, don’t worry – a 3.5mm audio connector is here too.

The top plate is a cool, smooth metal. The lightest touch will change the colour of the light and, using the track control buttons on the bottom, you can adjust the brightness too. When you’ve got music playing through it you can also have a disco lighting effect going on too. It’s quite cool and the triangular outer section, which is a soft misty plastic, cycles through blue, purple, red, yellow, green and lots of other colours in between.

Below the LED light itself there’s a gap to allow the sound to flow through. It works quite well and the sound is decent enough, although cranking it up to full blast does give a tiny bit of distortion.

The base itself is a soft black rubber and has the controls for turning the device on / off and skipping tracks plus adjust the volume.

Not only that, but after downloading an app you can fully control the lamp, including the ability to set a wake up light with music too. Nice huh?

As for battery life, I’ve been using this on and off for a week and I’ve not had any issue with battery life so far. It’ll play audio for around 6 hours and then takes just over two hours to charge back up again.

To give you a proper look at the device, here’s a video overview of the device in use…

Overall

Digging around the various websites, this sells for around £15.82 from a site called Banggood.com.

For the size of it, which is relatively small, the sound is fairly OK and the addition of the LED light is quite cool. As a speaker for a child, perhaps as both a night-light and as a fun disco light, it’s pretty good indeed.
