Useless Christmas present ideas or a stroke of genius?

iKettle WiFi Stainless Steel – £89.99

If your boiler can be automated these days, why not the kettle?  This gadget allows you to use your smartphone to turn your kettle on.  Not only that, but it will actually tell you once it has boiled, will remind you to refill the kettle if it is empty, has an automatic alarm mode for turning the kettle on, and will also let you choose the temperature if you don’t want it to reach 100C.

If boiling water wasn’t enough fun, it also has a ‘game mode’: using the associated app you can battle your significant other to see who makes the best brew.

It is worth noting that these products are available in a range of colours from a variety of different shops, so if you tempted by these, shop around first.
