Microsoft have just announced that the Windows Phone 7.8 upgrade will happen in ‘early 2013’ to as many devices as possible. No list yet which devices will get it first but expect the usual Nokia Lumia and HTC series to get it pretty early due to being key partners.
This will be disappointing news for current 7.5 owners who have seen the new resizable tiles on Windows Phone 8 for a little while now. Many people were hoping for a late 2012 launch.
We know you’re eager to get the Windows Phone 7.8 update, and we want you to know that we’re working closely with our hardware and carrier partners to get it tested, approved, and rolled out to as many devices as possible in early 2013. As we work to quickly get this in the hands of our loyal users, we’re also striving to deliver a high-quality release and ensure a smooth transition for our widely expanded services.
Thank you for your support of Windows Phone.
