Here in the UK you can dial an 0800 number and it’ll be free. However, it’s only free if you’re using a landline. If you’re using a mobile phone you suddenly become all special and the networks delight in adding a fee for you to call it.
The words “free” and “unlimited” are getting diluted to such a point that we’ve become a grumpy, disillusioned and disappointed bunch. Now Ofcom is waving the sword for customers by ..err.. proposing some changes that .. might.. mean that we’ll get free calls to 0800 numbers from mobiles next year some time.. maybe.
Until then, have a dig around your app store for apps that call the 01, 02 or 03 equivalent numbers. They’re rather good. 🙂

About time!!! And why is it that car insurance companies give you an 0800 number to cal if you’ve had an accident – most people have an accident away from their home and therefor will ring up with their mobile!!!!
