Apple documentation against Samsung queried

The BBC is carrying a very interesting story surrounding the continuing battle between Apple and Samsung. Apple have recently secured an injunction to stop Samsung selling the Galaxy Tab 10.1 Android Tablet because is “slavishly” copied iPad designs. A number of images and comparison shots have been filed by Apple lawyers.

Those images are now subject to debate as, when the two devices are actually placed compared side-by-side, there’s a definite difference in dimensions. The Apple documents appear to make both devices look exactly the same although…

When presented in the correct aspect ratio, the Samsung’s screen appears longer and narrower than its American rival.

It’s unclear at this point whether Apple and their lawyers are deliberately misleading the court.

Here’s the official dimensions, as taken from the manufacturers websites..

Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 Dimensions – 256.7 x 175.3 x 8.6 mm
Apple iPad 2 Dimensions – 241.2 x 185.7 x 8.8 mm

We punched these details into SizeEasy.com to get a real graphical representation of how the two devices would compare when placed together. The resulting image is below. The yellow image is the iPad 2, the black image is the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1. You can see that the Samsung device is both noticeably taller and thinner than the iPad 2.
