It’s great to see that Google are planning to add content ratings for all apps within the Android Market. The system, which will be rolling out “in a few weeks” will help people choose applications that are suitable for them. There will be four categories – All, Pre-teen, Teen and “Mature”. Guidelines state that apps containing references to alcohol, tobacco or drugs should be in the “Teen” rating. Apps that actually “focus on the consumption” of these should be in the “Mature” category.
Developers are being asked to include a rating for their apps and users should expect updates to the Android Market app in the next few weeks.
