Google Mail app update in Android market

Google have released an update to their Gmail app in the Android market.

This is part of Google’s new strategy of releasing core apps in the Android market, rather than as part of upgrades to Android itself.

There is a catch though – its only available to those with Android 2.2. That does rather defeat the purpose of releasing updates independently of OS updates; if you need the latest OS to actually get the updates.

But for those lucky enough to have 2.2, you can get the improved key tasks bar and limited priority inbox features by downloading the app from the Android Market.
