The Google Phone – Yet more trinkets of info

The Google Phone Yet more trinkets of info That “Google Phone” rumour just refuses to go away. Today Tweets have appeared, supposedly from Google employees, mentioning that they’ve received the new Google Phone. Other Twitter users followed with Tweets like this

“A friend from Google showed me the new Android 2.1 phone from HTC coming out in Jan. A sexy beast. Like an iPhone on beautifying steroids”

Most of this seems to have stemmed from this Tweet from Leslie Hawthorn, who is Programme Manager for Google’s Open Source Team, who stated…

“ZOMG we had fireworks and we all got the new Google phone. It’s beautiful.”

… so that’s either a fantastic bit of evidence to base all this on or Google are doing some strange marketing for their Android platform. This could also be the HTC Bravo we saw the other day (think the HD2, with Android), but we’ll be following this story as it develops. If we’re to guess what the “Google Phone” is then we’d place bets on it being a totally new Google experience which isn’t tampered with by operators or manufacturers.

Update – This picture has just popped up on the t’interwebs and shows the handset itself. It’s tagged as the “Nexus One” but looks pretty much exactly like the HTC Bravo we saw in the leaked docs. After a big of digging the engadget boys have found yet more pics following Tweets and pics from Cory O’Brien, who’s an account manager at a marketing agency in San Francisco. The plot thickens.
