Everybody has heard of Skype. Thanks to Skype I called the UK from Boston and Seattle for hours on end and yet it only cost me about £6. All it took was a Pocket PC and a WiFi connection, however it’s now properly available for the Smartphone too. Skype 2.2 Beta now gives better support for Pocket PC devices and – at last – support for the Windows Mobile Smartphone too.
There’s a homescreen plugin giving status and event notification including missed calls, chat messages, voice mail and there’s proxy support on the way too. There’s the usual Skype-to-Skype free calling and their stupidly cheap Skype-out calling rates to regular phones. So, next time you find yourself in a hotel room with your Smartphone and a sync cable, you know what to do ! 🙂
