A bit of maintenance

A bit of maintenance Right, I’m going to confuse myself now. Here in Europe we’re now on Daylight Savings Time, so all our clocks have gone forwards. However, in the USA their clocks haven’t changed yet – that happens on April 2nd at 2am. So, if I’ve got this right, New York for example is currently 6 hours behind us here in the UK, instead of the usual 5 hours behind. San Diego, California, where the CoolSmartPhone server lives, is currently 9 hours behind.

Why am I mentioning all this? Well on Monday we’ll be off-line for around 15 minutes between 0.15 and 0.45 PST, which – because the clocks in the USA will have gone forward by then – is 8 hours behind us here in the UK and 9 hours behind most of the rest of Europe. If you notice us off-line between 8.15-8.45 BST then this’ll be why. The guys who own the data centre and network for us say that this is for a “preventative network maintenance window”.
