I’m sure we’ve all seen those friggin’ irritating text messages that pop up on the phone. Y’know the type, “You’ve got a TCS answer phone message, dial XXXX to collect” – you call it, then there’s some woman telling you you’ve won hundreds of thousands. It sounds genuine enough, she’s even stumbling through her words and there’s an office noise in the background. But wait – to call them back you need to dial 0906.. ahhh.. there’s the catch.
This Register story today gives details about the huge fines lumped onto these scammers by telephone watchdog ICSTIS. Six companies, all operating from outside the UK have been given fines of £75,000 each… bad lads!
