A week ago we reported that the developer preview for Cortana in the UK should be heading to these shores in the next few weeks. It has now been confirmed from two Microsoft employees that when she arrives, she won’t be voiced by Jen Taylor, the actress who voices her in the Halo series and who provides the voice for the US version.
This is slightly disappointing as it means we don’t get the fully authentic experience, but not too surprising as manufacturers often tweak the voice packs for different regions in the same way they do with keyboards and phone languages. Siri, for example, speaks with a different voice in different countries, although you can choose which voice you want to use. Whether this will happen at a later date and exactly which part of the UK the actress will come from are yet to be confirmed.
