Sony Ericsson make the X10 Official
03 Nov 2009 - Handsets - Sony Ericsson (Android) - By Leigh Geary

Sony Ericsson have released a couple of Windows Mobile phones. The most recent is the Xperia X2 and is about to go live on Vodafone but today a new Xperia model got announced - the X10. This is a change of direction for Sony Ericsson, who have perhaps struggled a little with their panels interface and Windows Mobile, and have instead chosen Android with their in-house "Rachel" interface on top. This interface is called the "UX Platform" by Sony Ericsson themselves and the press release mentions that more phones are to "join the Xperia family in 2010".

The handset, which is set to debut from Q1 in "selected markets", and will come in black or white. There's a Sony Ericsson "Timescape" system which will funnel all of your communications into a neat timeline so you can manage your interaction with the outside world more easily. "Mediascape" lets you access media content from your phone, YouTube and PlayNow.

As for the specs, it's all very tasty indeed. Powered by a 1Ghz Qualcomm Snapdragon CPU (read: VROOM!) and Android 1.6 (Donut) it has a 4 inch 480x854 (WVGA) scratch-resistant screen, tri-band 3G / HSPA and quad-band GPRS / EDGE. There's an 8.1 megapixel camera with auto-focus, face recognition, geo-tagging, 16x digital zoom, smile detection, touch-focus and video recording. There's stereo Bluetooth (A2DP), G-Sensor, GPS, 3.5mm audio jack, WiFi and a microUSB slot.

The specs also show 1GB of internal phone memory, although we did hear earlier rumours of 32GB on-board.. obviously you'll need to use a microSD card to expand that then. 8GB is included in the box. Engadget have loads of photos and videos of the actual phone, so dive in!
