New Omnia range - The details
15 Jun 2009 - Handsets - Samsung (Windows) - By Leigh Geary

Well, today was the big "Samsung Unpacked" event. It took until 7PM to get started in the UK, and in the end it seemed to mainly concentrate on the Jet, which sadly isn't powered by Windows Mobile. However, the Omnia range did receive a significant boost after several new phones appeared hours earlier on random Samsung websites.

Further details and specs can now be found on this Samsung website. Windows Mobile 6.1 is under the hood on all phones, with 6.5 becoming available when available. The Omnia II (I8000) has HSDPA / HSUPA connectivity with quad-band EDGE / GPRS and a 5 megapixel auto-focus camera with dual-power LED flash - oh, and face detection / mobile blogging / geo-tagging and a photo editor. An FM radio with RDS, 3.5 mm jack, a-GPS, Bluetooth 2.0, WiFi and three sorts of internal memory seem to be on the cards (2GB/8GB/16GB), plus the "up to 32GB" microSD(HC) expansion slot to bring it up to 48GB of max storage. A 1500mAh battery will keep you juiced up for hours.

The Omnia Pro B7610 also has quad-band EDGE / GPRS and 3G connectivity with a 3.5" WVGA AMOLED screen at 480x800 screen. This has a 5 megapixel camera with auto-focus and GPS, TV-out, Bluetooth v2.0 EDR, WiFi, FM radio with RDS, microSD(HC) and that 1500mAh battery. The Omnia LITE (B7300) has quad-band GPRS / EDGE with HSDPA 3.6Mbps, a 3 megapixel camera with aut-focus, FM radio with RDS, aGPS, Bluetooth 2.0, WiFi, microSD(HC) and the 1500mAh battery once again. The B7320 isn't mentioned in this particular press release, but we assume it's the international version of the Samsung Jack that's available in the USA and thus has similar specs, if not the same.

Update - Some rather lovely photos are now available on mobileburn.com

Update 2 - We've just had the full fact sheet on three of the devices (Omnia II, Omnia PRO B7610 and OmniaLITE). Grab the PDF here.

This week I have been asked to review Twitter Pro. I am very fond of Tweetcaster so any new Twitter client has to be good. For £1.50 can this compete?
