i-Mate have always been an interesting company. We've been impressed by some of their handsets and their rather splendid specs, however there have been constant rumours about manufacturing and financial problems within i-Mate. Despite reassurances from i-Mate, the rumours still continue.
Now it appears that i-Mate USA is having some rather severe "restructuring" with the quality assurance, engineering and other teams being given the boot. Engadget are reporting that, following the sizeable lay-offs, some remaining staff decided to leave anyway. The VP of Sales and Marketing is gone, as is the Chief Software Officer - all down, it seems, to a lack of sales in America.
