Got problems sending an MMS on your Touch Dual?
23 Dec 2007 - Handsets - HTC (Windows) - By Leigh Geary

Yesterday I took delivery of my second Orange-branded HTC Touch Dual. I had to send the first one back as the mini-USB port had started playing up, however - during the setting up of the new phone I noticed a strange problem. MMS messages just can't be sent from the HTC Gallery. I didn't notice this issue with the previous phone, however I'd fiddled with it quite a bit and inadvertently fixed the issue without knowing. How? Well, click on for the details.

The issue seems to be that the phone will drop you into an SMS text message screen when you're actually trying to send an MMS message. It's.... annoying, but fixable, although the fix is strange to say the least. Sending an MMS directly works fine, you hop into "Messaging" and choose "New MMS", job done. From the HTC Gallery app though, it seems to want to do an SMS instead. Weird. Here, let me show you....

Here's me in the HTC Gallery application on the HTC Touch Dual (Orange version). I've found a picture that I'd like to send and I'm about to click on the envelope..

I click the envelope to send an MMS and...

Ahh.. that's not right is it? I can't fit my picture into 160 characters, that's fer-sure..

But wait, there is a fix. You need to add in a POP email account. From the main screen choose "Messaging"..

Now choose "New E-Mail Account".

Now, if you don't want to add an email account or don't have one, don't worry - just stick some duff information in and choose "Manual" for the send / receive schedule...

Now look - I've got a new mail account in my Messaging app...

Now, when I go back into the HTC Gallery application and click that magic envelope.... it works...

Who's to fix this ? HTC via their eClub and software downloads ? Microsoft by their "Windows Update", which never really seems to do anything, or Orange, who may update it if they feel like it.

The Android App Review Show - Episode 12
This week I have been asked to review Twitter Pro. I am very fond of Tweetcaster so any new Twitter client has to be good. For £1.50 can this compete?
