HTC Sliding QWERTY spotted on FCC Android News - 05 Sep 2010 - Handsets - HTC (Android) - By Leigh Geary
This HTC QWERTY device, emblazened with the Verizon logo, has just popped up on the FCC. At a guess this will no doubt be an Android device (no Windows flag in sight) and the keyboard, as you can see, is a lovely shade of red.
Known as the "HTC PD42100" it'll be arriving on Verizon pretty soon and, we can only hope, to a European network in a slightly different guise soon. Bluetooth, WiFi and 4" screen are confirmed so far.

| Register At Vodafone For Galaxy Tab Android News - 05 Sep 2010 - Handsets - Samsung (Android) - By Dan Carter
Vodafone have updated their Coming Soon section of the website to include information on the Samsung Galaxy Tab which will be available on their network soon here in the UK.
The Tab is an Android based tablet running 2.2 FroYo so you get the latest version of the OS right out of the box, it also offers a 7 inch touch screen and features like a front facing camera for video calling. Offering 2.2 will also include support for Flash content which is an area the Apple iPad falls short on.
Sim free from eXpansys you will have to pay a rather expensive £679.99 to own it outright so expect a rather large discount on a pay monthly contract.

| HTC Peep - The bird is back General News - 03 Sep 2010 - General Software - By Leigh Geary
In the last few minutes it seems that HTC Peep is starting to burst back into life. The HTC Twitter client, which packed up on September 1st, got apparently fixed by Twitter. However, after another "we've fixed some login issues" message from Twitter this afternoon it seems that the Peep client is back.
You guys are reporting that the timeline has popped back with some reporting that they're had to clear their cache but it certainly does look positive after 3 days in the wilderness.
Thanks to everyone who contacted us on this.
| We know we are playing catch-up - Microsoft WinMo News - 03 Sep 2010 - Windows Phone - By Leigh Geary
In a blog post today Andy Lees, Senior VP for Mobile Communications at Microsoft, has followed up on the earlier RTM announcement. Andy quotes the few sites who got to see Windows Phone 7 in action and states that ..
“We know that we face tough competitors and that we are playing catch-up, but we like our chances. We took a different approach and created a totally fresh mobile experience that connects you to the things you care about most, rather than creating more distance between you and your life.”
Oh, and again Microsoft are stating.. "And we’re only getting started…"

| Angry Birds. Download. This. Now. Android News - 03 Sep 2010 - Software - Android - By Leigh Geary
Angry Birds is now available in a Beta form on the Android Market. It's a highly addictive game which was only meant to be in "closed beta" this week but, due to massive demand, the developers have put it out today for everyone. I'd love to tell you a bit more about it, but unfortunately my wife hasn't let go of the game yet so I've resorted to filming a clip ver her shoulder.
This will probably be a paid-for app when it comes out of beta (and rightfully so, it's already the number 1 app everywhere on the iPhone) so grab it now. In your Android Market do a search for "Angry Birds" and click the one by "Rovio". It's unbelievably addictive and the instructions are pretty simple - just use your slingshot to fire your Angry Birds ay the green pigs who have stolen their eggs. Different birds have different skills and... list. Just DOWNLOAD IT NOW. Honestly. Get it. Go on. Now.

The new joint venture company combining Orange and T-Mobile UK, Everything Everywhere today announced the launch date of the combined network roaming agreement which will allow customers of both groups roam on each other's network.
From the 5th October customers will be able to 'opt-in' to the service which will mean if their existing network has no coverage where you are but the other network does you will be able to use your phone as normal.
This is a big step in moving the new company forward and what better way to start than giving customers access to 2 massive networks for the price of one!.
Mobile Today covered the announcement. Read on .....

| Samsung Galaxy Tab and Toshiba Folio 100 handled Android News - 03 Sep 2010 - Google Android - By Leigh Geary
There's a good video on the BBC website which takes a look at the new 7" Samsung Galaxy Tab we covered yesterday. There's a hands-on and a wry smile from Carey McGregor (Senior Product Manager at Samsung) when BBC reporter Rory Cellan-Jones states, "It looks lovely, but it looks just like a shrunken iPad though".
The Folio 100, from Toshiba, is also shown and comes with Android 2.2, Flash 10.1 support and a miniHDMI port. It can boot in just 30 seconds (thanks to the Nvidia Tegra 2 CPU) and has a 10" 1024x600 resolution screen. It has 7 hours of battery life, SD card reader, 1.3MP camera and more. Strangely Toshiba show it viewing a video promoting the iPad :)

| Samsung cautious about Windows Phone 7 WinMo News - 03 Sep 2010 - Windows Phone - By Leigh Geary
Last month we spotted a Samsung prototype running Windows Phone 7. Samsung are confirmed as hardware partners for the new OS alongside LG, HTC, Asus and Dell. However, after Motorola decided not to take part it's a little worrying to see Samsung now stating that the new Windows Phone 7 Operating System only has "...some professional, specialized demand..".
There is perhaps some confusion on the target market as the new Windows Phone OS is aimed squarely at consumers, not just the business / professional category. Speaking just a day after the OS was finished, YH Lee, Head of Marketing at Samsung Mobile, also stated..
“We are Prioritizing our Android platform. Android is very open and flexible, and there is a consumer demand for it.”
Only one Samsung handset is slated to run Windows Phone 7 currently. We're assuming that Samsung are just being cautious as Windows Phone 7 has no sales figures currently.
