OK, I'll admit it. I'm a bit lost. After going through several pages of tariffs I'm still unable to find the new Orange flat rate plans that are to launch this month. We've been promised "anytime browsing" by their press release but it just doesn't seem to exist in any real sense.
Update - We've already had a few mails from people asking about these new tariffs and now it's becoming increasingly clear that there just doesn't seem to be any real anytime packages. Indeed, we've been contacted by people working at Orange to say that the new bundles are still restricted - and they're heavily restricted too. Advertised as "flat rate, anytime" they have a stupidly low "cap" on data. The new £8 bundle, for example, is limited to a mere 30mb! Just what's going on?! This pales in comparison to offerings from T-Mobile, who cap at 1Gb for just £7.50! Is the £8 per month for "anytime browsing" capped at 30Mb really "it"?
This news has angered me greatly and I've made my feelings clear in this post. This just isn't good enough.

Called them today, as I was told by a Supervisor a couple of weeks ago today was the "go live" date.
Got through to the usual drone who hadnt a clue, but he'd call back once in looked into it. For the 1st time ever they actually rang back with the following "Our orange world unlimited bundle is limitied to 30MB per month, it'll cost £8.00 but it wont be available for a week or so"
unlimited = 30MB what a waste of effort chasing them!
Would like to here how everyone else has got one |

Had a look at the Orange web pages today and was confused too!
Couldn't find data/Orange World bundles at all
Ah well - given the previous posts it probably will not be worth the wait; on the other hand, with our expert Orange Customer-Service knowledge base... ... anything could happen.

It's all over the other mobile sites - it's £8 for 30mb/month. Not per day, but per month! The sooner 3 get Windows Mobile phones onto X-series the better. Hopefully with Kaiser, Wings and Erato all being 3G (along with the Moto Q) that will happen this summer. |

If you log into your account on the Orange Website and then click Add/Remove Bundles, you will see the new tariffs (I am Pay Monthly so not sure what PAYG would see). From what I can make out it is indeed £8 for 30mb per month, which is a bit crap if i'm honest.
So much for unlimited!! Think I may be leaving Orange at the end of my current contract....
Updated:
Here are the bundle options I can see within the My Account section.....
Orange World Access
Mbs Per Month - Cost Per Month
None = £0.00
OW Daily Capped Usage = £0.00
30 = £8.00
80 = £41.13

i left orange about 5 months ago - fed up with their crap customer service and terrible data tarrifs.
simple answer - t-mobile web& walk - 1GB for £7.50. now that really does work out as unlimited - you have to try REALLY hard to get near the GB limit
cheers

I've just checked my account and the £8/30Mb isn't even listed.
Talk Time 120 mind you... old old contract.
Infact, all thats listed is None (£0), Unlimited Evening & Weekends (£5) and 80Mb (£41.13), even though my package summary lists Orange World 4 and Orange World Access 4 - I can't even remember what the difference is!!!!
I'm REALLY sorry I didn't switch to Tmob when I had the chance. |

I spoke to them on the 31st and as per normal none of them knew anything about it, After a while she cam back and said she had found it. She said that it was 8 quid a month for 30mb of data, I couldnt have it though because it couldnt be put on your account if you are part of a talkshare. |

Well i switched to tmobile before my current contract was up (suppose i have orange broadband so thats my excuse for keeping that contract going) and i have a web and walk plus tariff, i think it cost me £11.50 on top of my monthly line rental but as i always use the internet its great, especially with tmobiles Ameo!
Always on internet, can use my Ameo as a modem for my laptop, all i would say was that orange has better 3G coverage, but after doing a speed test Oranges 3G was slower than tmobiles anyway! 1.2mb orange 1.8mb tmobile!
I used to love orange, their customer service was great and ive not really had any problems, but it was the good old web and walk that made me switch and the fact that tmobile had the Ameo available.
Good luck and hope that orange, "pull their socks up" or i think they will lose alot of customers. (sounds like people are and have switched already!)
As soon as my orange contract stops, im gonna get sky broadband instead! So bye bye orange! |

I've changed this story after receiving several emails from people working for Orange mentioning this 30Mb cap. Unlimited? We don't think so!
I think it's time to start a campaign if this is true, because their original press release stated...
Monthly Anytime browsing for £8
Sure, I'd expect a "fair usage cap" of somekind (like ADSL / broadband connections), but 30Mb is way, way, WAY too low to be useful and will just drive people away if it's true!
If these are the new plans and all the promised "unlimited" hype simply turns out to be £8 for a 30Mb cap (at best) then I'm infuriated. We've been told a whole load of marketing spin which has not only annoyed Orange customers, but it's also annoyed me because we plastered it all over the front page of Coolsmartphone. I actually wrote this story and said what "great news" it was. I feel like I've let the readers of this site down now that it turns out to be a 30Mb cap.
This just isn't good enough and I'm absolutely livid. It's time to start a campaign - a 30Mb cap is not an unlimited package. Sure, have a "fair usage" policy but at least make it a reasonable figure!!
At the end of the day people will still shy away from browsing on their Orange Windows Mobile phones because of this ridiculous limit.
What went wrong Orange? You won't lend us devices to review any more, you give us press releases that turn out to be virtually untrue and you're now giving "unlimited" data packages that are capped at an insane 30Mb!!!!

why does everything that's labelled as 'unlimited' always have a limit on it? |

My day job is working for an ISP, and sure - there does have to be some sort of figure where you say, "If someone sucks this much data then we'll have do something about it." But 30Mb is just too damned low - far too low. I used about 27Mb last month and I hardly did any browsing ! It was just the odd POP email collection and sending. Imagine if you're on this package - it's 1Mb a day!!!! That's insane!
On ADSL broadband for example you'll see limits of 2-10 Gb etc. But these are realistic figures. Let's asume you're at home on a broadband connection with Orange - you'll probably have a cap of 2Gb - this is fine for "normal" users who simply want to look at web pages and get some email and it's a realistic figure. There are others too - those who download MP3's on iTunes and maybe (COUGH)BitTorrent(COUGH). They'll need something more substantial. It protects the network from abuse and protects other users. 30Mb ... no way.. that's not even good enough for "normal users". Someone needs to re-adjust that. If you've got an Orange SPV M3100 on 3G you'll browse a few sites, get some email, download an attachment, email your boss some figures and then BOOM, you're over the limit.
At the end of the day you're STILL going to have people saying, "No, I'll wait until I get home and use my PC to browse the web. I don't want to go over the 30Mb limit on my phone. I'll probably get crippled with a huge bill"
Oh, and just to clarify, these appear to be the plans that have actually emerged...
1. £5 Evening and Weekend Unlimited. However, it's £3 per Mb "out of bundle" usage, then £1 per Mb for more than 15Mb over.
2. £8 Anytime "Unlimited" is capped at 30Mb p/m. Again, £3 per Mb over that. £1 per Mb for more than 15Mb over
3. £1 per day unlimited. Sounds good but you have to call Orange customer services every day to activate it!!! If you don't then it's £3 per Mb. _________________ Gears - Webmaster

some good ranting there! I feel equally bad as I pointed out the Times article that announced it. I was really excited, Ready to re-new my contract, even sign up for a 24 month one. But not now. I don't like change much, but I'm finally ready to go to T-Mob.
So far I've found Orange 3G so patchy even in "good" areas that I've turned it off just to get a consistent signal during phone calls. I won't miss it.
Imho it all started to go wrong when Hans Snook left.
Come back Hans, Orange needs you! |
