Web surveys - evil, annoying, pointless

Why? Why spend stacks of cash designing a site and display annoying pop-ups everywhere ? Not normal advertising pop-ups, oh no. These are "please tell us what you think of our site" popups. I've just been to two websites and got these.. why do this ? Just do a beta of your new site and then ask people to test it out and feedback their thoughts, don't make it live and then annoy the frig out of everyone!
