How to copy MP3 and WMA files across and listen to them Print E-mail
By Gears

A lot of people have been asking me just how to copy and listen to MP3s. It's a good question I suppose, as it's a really cool feature on the phone. The first question people ask is...

"When I copy an MP3 across I can't see it when I run Windows Media Player on my phone - why??"

Well, try loading Windows Media Player, hit "Menu" (or if you're on the "Play" screen, hit "Select", then "Menu") then "Local Content". This should sort it. If not, you've copied it to the wrong place, so read on.

The second question is usually...

"Where do I copy MP3s to?"

Stick them in \Storage Card\My Documents. NOT in \IPSM\My Documents - this is the PHONE memory, and there isn't enough for several MP3s! So, here's a step-by-step...

1)
ActiveSync your phone. To do this, ensure you've put the phone in the connecting cradle, you've installed ActiveSync (this should be on a CD that cam with your phone). If you HAVEN'T Sync'd up correctly, you'll get this in the bottom-right corner of your PC screen (the system tray)...

If everything has worked fine, and you're connected, you'll get....

2)
Open "My Computer" on your desktop. You should see an icon like this...

3) Double-click this, then you will see....

4) Double-click this and then you will see either this (Smartphone 2002 handsets)

Or you'll see this..

5) The only folders you will ever really want to deal with are "Storage / IPSM" - this is the SmartPhone storage, and "Storage Card" - this is your SD / MMC card storage. Double-click on "Storage Card". In here, create a folder called "My Documents" in the normal way, i.e. Right-click and choose "New Folder". Call it "My Documents".

6) Now move, or drag, or copy 'n paste (whatever you fancy) the MP3 from your PC's hard-drive to this new "My Documents" folder you have created. In the piccy below I am "dragging" it from my Desktop...

7)
If you see any notices - such as "a file needs to be converted" - just click ok. After a bit of copying you should see...

8) That's it ! Now all you do is unplug your phone from the cradle and go to ...

Programs - Windows Media

If you can't see it, read the very first few lines of this page! :)

The Android App Review Show - Episode 12
This week I have been asked to review Twitter Pro. I am very fond of Tweetcaster so any new Twitter client has to be good. For £1.50 can this compete?
