Today I've been playing with Java on my Windows Mobile. On the Orange SPV C500 there's a Java Midlet Manager - this allows you to store and play Java games and apps. WOAH! Did I lose you?! Well, yes - it's a little confusing.. I'll explain...
The Java apps usually come in the form of "midlets" - these are recognised by the file type *.jad or *.jar. I find that the .jar files tend to work the best. Now, all you need to do is grab a .JAR file, then copy it across to somewhere on your Smartphone, then run it.
The best place I've found to get these games / apps is from Midlet.org, which has a fantastic array of free Java apps and games for you to try. I've put some of the good ones in the Coolsmartphone downloads section here so you can have a play. On the C500 I did the following...
1) Download game (.JAR file)
2) Sync phone, then copy .JAR file across to \Storage\My Documents
3) Using internal file browser on the C500 (or SmartExplorer if you wish), click and run .JAR file
4) This loads up the Java Midlet Manager and will install the file

Once this is done you can re-run the game simply by launching the Java Midlet Manager - the steps above simply INSTALL it.
After this, it's just a matter of getting the latest .JAR file and installing it! :)
NOTE - If you're NOT using a Smartphone with a Java player installed, click here to grab MIDP, which lets you play Java games.
