Microsoft Band Canned. Team disband.

I tried out the Microsoft Band and Band 2. I was quite impressed but sadly there’ll be no third version.

A few weeks ago Thurrott reported that the future of Microsoft Band looked less than promising. Let’s face it, Microsoft tried to do the “hardware thing” and failed in both the mobile and wearable space. Software and apps is where the future seems to be now, so the Band is history.

Microsoft Band Canned. Team disband.

Now the entire Band team is to be dissolved, with Microsoft confirming that the Band 2 would be sold off cheaply to get rid of remaining stock. A statement reads…

We have sold through our existing Band 2 inventory and have no plans to release another Band device this year. We remain committed to supporting our Microsoft Band 2 customers through Microsoft Stores and our customer support channels and will continue to invest in the Microsoft Health platform, which is open to all hardware and apps partners across Windows, iOS, and Android devices.

The Microsoft Health service continues, but the Band SDK has vanished and the Band 2 itself is dropping off stores now. It still seems to be on the Microsoft UK store though, for £199.99.
