LG announce the G3 – Lasers and all

LG announce the G3 Lasers and all

Today LG have announced the successor to the hugely successful and rather unique G2 the ridiculously leaked G3. The G3 has seen more leaks than a new phone should get really, with some of them actually coming from LG themselves. We were at the event in London today so expect a hands on article soon. In the meantime here are the official details. Starting with the specs:

  • Android 4.4.2, KitKat.
  • Colours:Metallic Black, Silk White, Shine Gold.
  • Dimensions: LxWxD (mm) 146.3×74.6×9.1.

  • Connectivity: Bluetoothv 4.0, NFC, Wi-Fi802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, USB v2.0, HDMI and USB OTG via Slim Port.
  • Audio: Headset jack 3.5 mm, Audio codec MP3, M4A, WAV, AMR, WMA, MKA, FLAC, OGG, MID, XMF.
  • Video: Video codec MP4,H.264,H.263,WMV.
  • Other Features: DLNA, Wi-Fi Direct, Miracast, FM Radio, NFC.

Highlights of the phone for me are the 2K screen which stands to be the first widely available device with a 2K display. The removable battery and Micro SD slot are gratefully received. The camera with its laser assisted focusing system and OIS make me eager to to snap some photos and the tiny bezels around the screen really put some of the others to shame.

LG announce the G3 Lasers and all

The only downside of having so many rumours and leaks about a device is that some of the rumoured specs that were getting people so excited don’t seem to have made it into the final draft of the device. I’m talking about the SnapDragon 805 CPU, 3GB of RAM and 32GB of Internal Memory. So it seems LG are either going to do what they did last year and aggressively price the G3 or there might be a “Prime” model coming later in the year.

Last of all we’ve got the official LG advert/promo video for the G3.
