EE announce shared plans, PAYG broadband and more

UK network EE held an event in London today to outline some important steps in their 4G rollout….. there is rather a lot to take in so grab a drink, sit back and prepare yourself

First of all comes the new ‘Double Speed’ brand which is basically the network doubling the 4G spectrum allowance from 1 x 20Mhz to 2 x 20Mhz thus allowing for even faster speeds, reportedly up to 150Mbps.

However real world speeds can be seen around 80Mbps with the average stated in London now over 20Mbps depending on traffic on the mast at the time.

Originally this was starting in 10 locations, but has now been upped to 12.

Double speed will be available from the 4th July

Then there is 4G PAYG MBB which offers customers either a dongle costing £50 or a MiFi costing £70, both coming with 2G built in but if purchasing at launch you get 6GB

Topups available are

  • £3 giving 500MB lasting 1 day
  • £15 giving 2GB lasting 30 days
  • £20 giving 4GB lasting 30 days
  • £30 giving 10GB lasting 30 days

PAYG 4G sim cards are also available if you already own a device, these cost £15 and come with 2GB included, after this has been used you can use the deals above

Now comes the deal that might confuse a lot of people as it did at the event today.

Shared bundle deals allow a customer to select unlimited minutes/texts and a data allowance of their choice for a price per month.  You can then add on extra phones or tablets to share this allowance for a lower price than a standalone contract.

Price plans are as follows

  • £31 a month for unlimited calls, texts and 1GB internet
  • £36 a month for unlimited calls, texts and 1.5GB internet
  • £41 a month for unlimited calls, texts and 2GB internet
  • £46 a month for unlimited calls, texts and 10GB internet
  • £51 a month for unlimited calls, texts and 20GB internet

These are promotional plans if you sign up before 30th September, considering the £51 plan normally gives you 5GB, for an extra 15GB free of charge this is a great deal for many.

To add a phone to the plan will start from £22 a month and a sim only will be £12 if you sign in for 12 months or £17 if you want a 30 day commitment.

Mobile broadband is also available costing £11 for a dongle or MiFi and sim only costing £5 for a 24 month commitment and £8 for a rolling 30 days.
