The chip designer Qualcomm has confirmed that they are still struggling to meet demand.
Back in April they reported that they under estimated the need. The chips, 28 nanometre ones, are used in the most popular Android handsets including the Samsung Galaxy S3, HTC One X. This shortage, as you can imagine is also having a knock on affect on manufacturers.
Qualcomm outsourced the production of their chips solely to Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company. Due to the exceptionally high demand, they have had to find additional manufacturers and now have “four sources.”
With the additional manufacturers Qualcomm now state,
We currently project that we’ll be able to closely match supply with demand as we exit the calendar year.
Which is good news for everyone!
