Mike Daisey Apple story, not strictly true

You may have heard or read about Mike Daisey visiting Foxconn in Shenzhen. The original broadcast, which we wrote about earlier, made fantastic listening. It was featured in”This American Life” and got broadcast all over America.

Mike told us about the working conditions, the dangerous chemicals being used and the workers who were amazed to see a real, working iPad in the flesh. However, following an investigation by the editors of the show, some serious problems have been revealed. The interpreter was “out of contact” according to Mike so there was no way for the editors to double-check facts. When the interpreter was recently contacted, she couldn’t remember meeting any underage workers or anyone hurt by dangerous chemicals.
