Asus hasn’t forgotten owners of the original Transformer tablet – ICS is still coming!

Asus has said it is still planning to release an Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) upgrade for its original Transformer tablet this month.  Ermm..that’s in the next few days, then.  Transformer TF101 owners have been waiting patiently for the upgrade, which should arrive by next Wednesday.

Asus said on Facebook, “A quick refresher on the TF101 ICS Update that you are all so patiently waiting for. Our engineers are working hard on getting this ready for you as soon as possible and are still aiming for a February release.”

Earlier this month Asus was forced to deny a delay to the Android 4.0 ICS upgrade for the Transformer after its Singapore Facebook page said it could tip up in March.

It’s worrying that Asus hasn’t given a specific date for the over the air (OTA) update, but RIM launched its Playbook OS 2.0 this week without announcing a date before releasing it.

Things are looking brighter now that Asus has started to roll out the upgrade in Taiwan with other regions to follow.

It said on Facebook, “we are delighted to announce that the first wave of FOTA [firmware over the air] updates for TF101 firmware v.9.2.1.11 started today in Taiwan. The update will FOTA in other regions soon after.”

Update
Following the news that the update is rolling out in Taiwan today, Asus has confirmed that the rollout will begin in the UK today.

It said, “The OTA update will, barring security issues, be starting in the UK today so keep a steady eye on your devices and let us know when you get it and what you think!”
