Toshiba Thrive tablet ready to roll. Cheap too.

Meet the Toshiba Thrive. It runs Android 3.1 (Honeycomb) and is powered by an NVIDIA Tegra 2 Dual Core CPU. It comes with a 10.1″ IPS 1280×800 720p 16:10 screen and has two cameras – a 5 megapixel rear shooter with auto-focus and a 2 megapixel front-facing webcam. Other features include 802.11 b/g/n/ WiFi, Bluetooth, USB, miniUSB, HDMI, SD slot and headphone ports.

Initially just called the “Toshiba Tablet” this will also have a range of rear covers so you can make it your own. Announced in the US today it’ll be available for $429 (£260) for the 8GB model, $479 (£290) for the 16GB and $579 (£355) for 32GB. Yes, yes, that is cheap.

  • Like the look of that – it really could be an iPad alternative. 
    Not replacement, I still think Android doesn’t yet have the Apps to be a direct replacement for the iPad. 
    However as an alternative for internet surfing, e-mail and Skype, it is cheap enough that it could fill that gap.
