Android 2.1 Gallery app reduces colour depth

Android 2.1 Gallery app reduces colour depth Here’s something I bet you didn’t know, and I want to thank Dr. Raymond Soneira for emailing me and pointing this out. Android version 2.1 has an interesting “difference” in the gallery app colour depth compared to 2.01. Using a Motorola Droid Dr Raymond discovered that the gallery app in 2.0.1 showed images in 24-bit, but in 2.1 the new gallery app shows images only in 16-bit colour depth.

The guys at pcmag.com managed to get a response from Google on this and they’ve confirmed that the new app does indeed downgrade images, but this is due to the way that Cooliris works and isn’t a limitation of the OS.
