The Toshiba TG01 – Picture special

The Toshiba TG01 Picture special Just yesterday Orange announced this – the all-new Toshiba TG01. It’s the first Toshiba we’ve ever looked at and our initial opinions centred around the collosal 4.1″ screen. The phone lacks the Opera browser (although you can install it) and doesn’t have the HTC “extras” you’d normally expect like the custom media player and the TouchFLO interface. Toshiba have however added a 3D GUI with spinning stripes and an on-screen mouse system. There’s also nowhere for your stylus to live. Instead there’s one tucked away in the box with a wrist-strap but you’ll hopefully never need it thanks to the 800×480 WVGA screen.

There’s also haptic feedback, helpful “clicks” and the call / drop keys have been converted to small soft-keys on the screen. The 1Ghz CPU makes dialing on the keypad extremely speedy and the screen orientation switch is quicker too. We’ll have our usual hand-on video shortly, but for now you can enjoy some up-close pictures and comparison shots. This really is a very thin handset indeed.
