Mobile Marketplace to allow 5 instances of purchased apps

Mobile Marketplace to allow 5 instances of purchased apps Another snippet of news has just popped out of last weeks Tech Ed conference after it was revealed that Windows Marketplace users can run purchased apps on up to five phones at the same time. This, according to Senior Product Planner Daniel Bouie, would let you share apps and games with friends and family also using Windows Mobile 6.5 and above. Computerworld.com also state that Marketplace customers will get a no-quibble refund within the first 24 hours of purchase.

The move could upset developers, who will be looking to sell as many apps as possible, but Microsoft maintain than the LiveID system will prevent casual piracy and will ensure that only a maximum of 5 authorised phones can run the same purchased app.

Update – Microsoft want to make it clear that this is for 5 of your OWN phones – i.e. if you update your handset etc, not for sharing around willy-nilly with your mates down the pub.
